For me, Nurses week is never felt by the ordinary nurses. As long as there is oppression, injustice, unappreciation and disunity, “Happy Nurses week” Is just a phrase. However, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation of your existence. Thank you for being a good nurse. Thank you for the unselfish love and care that no other stranger can give. And thank you for a job well done. Be proud that you are nurse with an innate hero in your bloodline, a beautiful and caring Filipino Nurse. If ever in your nursing career no one appreciates you, From the bottom of my heart…thank you so much for being there. There is someone above that knows all your sacrifices. God bless us all.

A short story
When I was growing up, I had a neighbor who was a nurse in the United States Army. His name was Mr. Jenkins. Some adults in the neighborhood didn’t believe he was a nurse because he was occasionally sent to places like Egypt, Sudan or Pakistan and would come home a week later. His wife told people he was a Medical Evacuation nurse who helped transport wounded Americans back to American hospitals. My father said he was either a secret agent or an assassin. All I knew was that he was a good man. Sorry, that’s Beauty and the Beast Nurse Belle shirt. His daughter and I were in the same 4th grade class. One day in early December, she passed me a note. The note said that her dad wanted to take me Christmas shopping.

Ever since my father moved to California with a younger woman he met at work, my mom had been struggling. Our lives were turned inside out. I showed my mom the note and she called Mrs. Jenkins and expressed her appreciation and gratitude. They agreed that Mr. Jenkins would take me over the bridge to Philadelphia to buy a baseball glove and bat, my two great wishes. Philadelphia vibrated with excitement and joy. Snow flurries floated past us and through us as we walked to the biggest store I’d ever seen. The store had an awe-inspiring Christmas display and a high school chorus was singing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” Mr. Jenkins bought me a baseball bat and glove and a new winter coat. My heart was smiling.
