Brothers who will always be the best America had.” Vietnam Veteran 1959-1975. To all my brothers from JFK ’67 who pulled a tour in Nam, in country or off the coast – welcome home & Semper Fi. Thank you for your service Ron. I cannot even imagine what it was like going, let alone coming back. You’ve made quite a life since then.

The Vietnam War statues were put in place on Friday at the Welcome Home Soldier Monument in Albia. The statues, of three combat infantrymen walking with their weapons, is based off the statue on the Washington Mall. The statue includes an engraving on the black granite wall “We Were the Best America Had,” a poem written by John Cullor. “Brothers who fought without America’s Support; Brothers who returned without America’s welcome; Brothers who will always be the best America had.”
It is a haunting poem that captures the thoughts of the Vietnam War generation who served and the very reason for the name “Welcome Home Soldier.” This awesome! So, so proud of Albia and Monroe County for not folding under pressure from the trouble maker a couple of years ago! Brothers Who Fought Without America’s Support Vietnam Veteran 1959-1975 shirt. Veterans deserve it all. I can not wait to see this memorial! I am glad they are getting their recognition. I thank all who served in Viet Nam, including my husband.
