I don’t know if any of my Facebook friends have my problem – I have severe “perfume” allergies. (My allergist calls it “perfume-induced asthma.”) I absolutely cannot handle ANY scents, whatsoever. I feel terribly alone in this, because NOBODY seems to understand that my mantra, “I can’t handle ANY scents” means exactly that…that the chemicals in anything perfumed, including lotions, soaps, hairspray, deodorants, etc., will absolutely send me to the hospital if I don’t get away from them immediately.

Some scents will shut down my lungs and cause me to pass out – and there is even one perfume that makes me violent. I literally want to kick the person! (Sounds weird, I know, but my allergist told me that this was perfectly normal, because chemicals affect our brain, and whatever is in that one perfume obviously triggers rage in me.) The only safe place for me, really, is my home, because everything we buy is “unscented” (and even some of those contain scents, so I don’t know how they get away with insisting it’s “unscented”.)
Bill bought me a little ionizer to hang around my neck for whenever we go to the movies or a restaurant, etc., and it has been a saving grace! It doesn’t totally solve the problem, but if we move far enough away from the scents that bother me most, I’m usually okay. Buffalo Bill’s Body Lotion It rubs the lotion on its skin shirt. Today, a new friend of Bill’s came for a visit, and Bill had forgotten to ask him to please not wear anything scented…and oh my word, this guy had used a scented deodorant that literally permeated the whole house.
