My enemies—politically—are those in the establishment (media, academia, law, politics, etc.) who insist on portraying people of traditional faith as moral monsters who ought to be hounded out of public life as indecent.” Me: My enemies are not those morally opposed to LGBT rights in private. Yes, believe in yourself. My enemies — politically — are people of faith in positions of power (media, academia, law, politics, etc.) who insist on legislation that denies LGBT people their rights, or worse, criminalizes their existence and attempt to exempt them from protections others are provided.
I wish traditional Christians would quit acting like they have a monopoly on persecution. If, in an alternate universe, the Obamas had actually been Muslim and Michelle had taught at a school that espoused the view that all non-Muslims were infidels bound for hell, the right would have FREAKED out. I also think Dreher ignores the history of really abusive treatment of LGBT folks at the hands of traditional Christianity (children shunned from families and communities, “conversion therapy”). It’s not like it was all “live and let live” until the left got woke and started being meany-pants.
