While we believe that those who have passed are in a blessed place, we know exactly the physical and spiritual place they were in. We are in that calm every Friday. Today was a first for me. It also made me realize how strong this tiny kitty has made me. We’re at the Pet Hospital, the doctor comes in with Stryker’s lab results and breaks the bad news. She sat beside me and said Stryker’s kidneys are done. Sorry but have you got that Chicken I may look calm but in my head i’ve killed you three times shirt? Her recommendation was to euthanize today. Stryker then popped her head out of the blanket and gave a stare one could only interpret as “I’m not done fighting.” A determine/annoyed yet angry look. The doctor got choked up and was trying to hold back tears.

I knew that look. I’d seen it many times. I let out a sigh, said a silent prayer for my bank account (lol), looked at Stryker and nodded. See, when I almost put her down in January–I made her a promise, “You fight, I fight. Just let me know when you’re ready.” I was calm and collected while the doctor and technician, who’ve never seen that look from Stryker, started crying for her. I smiled, held my arms out, “Get over here guys. Everything’s going to be okay. Bring it in!”… and all 3 of us hugged.

I’m so grateful for the help from our CKD group family. The admins grouped together, I had Nancy on speakerphone with the doctor suggesting treatment. Lisa was messaging me much needed information, and people even donated to help cover the bill. Long story short–we’re going to keep fighting. And we won’t be doing it alone. And euthanasia is no longer an option. Stryker’s made herself clear on that. When she goes, it will be graceful and on her terms. Thank you to everyone, but most of all…. thank you Creator for another day.
