That’s Deadpool sorry I’m late I had to walk my Unicorn shirt. “Four years ago, I met a humble, soft spoken Whitetail guide from Missouri named Travis Crowley. By the end of our conversation, it was evident that he was a homegrown family man who aspired to live in the mountains. An aspiration that was trumped by his infatuation with mature whitetails. That next year, Travis got his first photo of a 3-year-old buck he called ‘Unicorn.’ Over the years, Unicorn gained a reputation as a mysterious creature who lurked through the Kansas prairie only under the cover of darkness. Three years later, there wasn’t a single daylight image or sighting of Unicorn.
But as he aged, his patterns became more concentrated, ultimately leading to nightly movement through a creek funnel that connected bedding and a hidden standing milo field. On November 9th, Travis walked me into a stand located in that very funnel. Within an hour I had deer under me, including a single doe who caught my wind and silently blew out. Shortly after…there Unicorn was. Within seconds I was at full draw with him at 15 yards as he stopped in the same spot as the doe. No shot. Retreating and on alert, he walked out beyond my 30 yard marker and stopped broadside in my opening.
I put the 40 yard pin on him and released. I heard the sound of air leaving his chest cavity on impact and within a minute, watched Unicorn’s rack fall backward over the hill. So much of archery hunting is failure after failure and when it comes together, your mind and body are overwhelmed with uncontrollable adrenaline and joy. I’m extremely thankful for this buck and the encounter we had but this isn’t about me. This buck is a representation of all the blood and sweat Travis has shed on the Kansas dirt and I’m stoked to have gotten an inside look at what drives his passion.” – Matt McCormick
My unicorns. They really exist. I’ve known most of them all my life. One since 2nd grade, I’ve lived with some, been to school with all of them at one time or another, football games, proms, weddings, babies, simply put we’ve walked through the highs and lows of life together. Sometimes they know me better than I know myself and they would never let me waver from the true me. These are friends, or unicorns, relationships that stand the test of time. I’m aware more than ever of the blessing and I am truly humbled to have them in my life. It’s rare these days to have these authentic relationships. Young girls, choose your friends wisely. Find your unicorns they really exist. Have you got Deadpool sorry I’m late I had to walk my Unicorn shirt?
