Because our egos have become more powerful than our compassion, and thus our desire to do something about it is nonexistent. It’s no longer about being good. It’s about being right. How unbelievably sad.

We human beings have a sophisticated intelligence which we must learn to use properly. Our decisions and consequent actions should not be taken simply on the basis of what we want. Although such an approach might provide some short-term satisfaction, we’d be little different from animals. There are so many examples of the sentience of animals and their ability to show compassion and affection. I would wish that we could all live together-every species with mutual respect and appreciation. Sometimes I wish I were no better than the animals, then I would kive a truly authentic life!

For those criticizing the Dalai Lama and accusing him of being disconnected…..First and foremost, His main responsibility is to have compassion for every living thing. And then to set an example and to speak from that direction. It is not his responsibility to solve the world’s problems, but to assist that process with wisdom and reason. And no, he does not have to be VEGAN to have validity. Grow up. I think many become confused with these words. Some feel frustration with these words to heed compassion. It doesn’t mean you don’t act to combat evil, rather you keep your compassionate heart in tact while you take actions to defend and promote better solutions.
