If you don’t think homesteading changes you I am here to tell you it does. It turns you into someone you never thought you could be. It gives you a piece of mind, makes you comfortable in your own skin, and it gives you strength to do thing you never thought you could do. Raising chicken for eggs is one thing. Finding people to believe that farm fresh eggs are better is another. Raising your own turkey & quail for meat? Unheard of by so many…what kind of world are you living that you kill your food, many often ask. Our birds are raised with love, respect, free range, and are raised very humanely, this gives us a piece of mind on butchering day.

Cute little pet bunnies to the masses of people out there. But a great source of protein for this family of 4; one step closer to raising a great source of meat protein on our 2 acres. Crazy guinea fowl have a job, but they to provide meat for our family. Duck, everyone loves ducks. But in order to remain out of the market, we are now breeding to put another meat protein on our table. That’s elephant poster: always remember you are braver than you believe stronger than you seem smarter than you think. Checked on the new quail chicks and I found 2 barely hanging on by a thread. They were culled and will become meat for our raw fed dogs, allowing for them to not go to waste.

Grow my own food. I mean GROW enough food to keep us out of the market? Getting very close to achieving this. Will we never shop at the market? Probably not, but less is better than more. Make my own bread, butter, noodles, cook from scratch, ferment, can foods….yes, this is part of my identity now. So in 3 years has homesteading changed me? One million percent. I am stronger than most women, I have a sense of independence, strength, became a steward to the land, marter of humane husbandry, and a self reliant, self sufficient being.
BRAVER, STRONGER and SMARTER
This is something that can never be taken from me. This is something that will make me part of the Last People Standing Club. If you have not started the crossover to this life, do it. Always remember you are braver than you believe stronger than you seem smarter than you think. Do it now with baby steps, or heck just jump in, BUT research first! I am a strong woman, with a strong man at my side making the best choices we can for our family. I am no longer Mrs. Jones or striving to look like Barbie. I generally wear straw, dirt, or poop and I am ok with my attire. I live a life that many dream of (though they may not always admit it), and I lead to live by example. I am just A Farm Girl In The Making.
