We are beautiful, we are strong, and we are resilient. We are strong, Indigenous Women because our grandmothers, mothers, and sisters persevered through devastating events, reshaping OUR history to empower us today to honour our identity as Indigenous. We have so much to offer and to provide. The negative images brought to our attention enable us to teach mainstream societies about our true selves. In all tribes that went through historical trauma, it was the women who maintained the societies and the culture, and who were leaders. We are the first teachers in our homes, families and we support our communities. We’re no longer in the shadows today, we are resilient.

We are resilient, my sisters, because we know who we are and where we come from. Empower one another because we are proud. I am proud to know many Indigenous women who are tired of such misconceptions and taking a stand everyday by teaching positively (and most times, aggressively) about our existence and importance to the world. On this “International Women’s Day” I’m giving a shout out to my mom for teaching me what it’s like to be a strong woman. Cheers to all the mentors, teachers and supporters who inspire, cheer-on, lift-up and help mold us ladies into the strong people we can be!

Happy women’s day to the strongest woman I know. A mother who taught us that there are no gender roles. A mother who was our martial arts and driving teacher, while our dad taught us how to cook. A mother who would go against the world to support our dreams however stupid it may seem. A mother who has raised us to know that hitting a woman is not macho and that a woman in a relationship with a man is not his property and taught us what mutual respect is all about. And of couse, being the best friend. Hope you love that God Found Some Of The Strongest Women And Made Them Teachers shirt.
