Do you like Grumpa like a regular grandpa only grumpier shirt? Some of you may already know that my Grandpa passed away January 2. Some of you may also know that he held a big piece of my heart. Although he lived in Florida and we didn’t see each other all the time, he was always my guy! I will hold all the memories of him close to my heart. Grandpa Bernie was born in 1924, was a trouble maker in high school, was in the Navy, fought in WWII and had a sailor lady tattooed on his arm.

He was hit by a car a couple years ago riding his bike and laughed about it (just some scraps and bruises), he battled lung cancer a few years ago that recently came back, and finally stopped working at the age of 92. He was grumpy, he cheated at cards, and always told me he loved me when we spoke on the phone. Sometimes we were both in tears saying goodbye! So Grandpa this is our goodbye with plenty of tears shed! I miss you and love you!
As you all have read, our loving father was taken from us last night. The man was tough as nails and fought until the end. For those of you who knew my dad, he was a generous man. He always had a smile to give. A quiet man who lived a modest, private and dignified life. He was the grumpy grandpa that my kids adored. He was the most forgiving man I knew. You will be missed papa bear, you deserve to be at peace with your faithful companions Harley and Kuzco. We will see you again.

Today was a very special day for my family, as we all came together to celebrate my grandfather’s retirement I couldn’t help but feel gratitude for the man I am blessed to call my Grumpy. For me I have know what an amazing grandfather my Grumpy is, he has taken care of us, loved us, supported us and has been a great role model for each of us. As we celebrated him with his company we truly got to see that not only do we see how amazing he is everyone else does to.
This to me is a huge testament to who my Grumpy is not just a grandfather but as a person! To just hear people speak so highly of someone we all love so much was heart warming. They of course spoke of his incredible work ethic, his loyalty to the company, his passion, etc but the thing that stuck out to me that they mentioned was his name truly is an amazing man who has done some amazing things at Sewell over the past 31 years but through it all he has stayed true to himself and remained humble.
