Happy St. Brigid’s Day! Have you ever wondered why it is that St. Patrick gets celebrated globally but not the other Irish matron saint?! St. Brigid is not on the same level as St. Patrick. She was a god that was until the Catholic Church (the male dominated church) could not get the people to let her go, so they told them she was a Saint. Many still do follow her. In a world where Catholic priests wrote the history and made the rules? No I’m not surprised they down play every female in power.

I have a niece who wanted to take my name at her confirmation, but of course there’s no Brenda. So she took the closest saints name she could come up with and it was St. Brigid. From what I’ve encountered, Irish women as a group are pretty amazing, tough, productive people. Maybe by simply being who they are, Irish women celebrate this woman and saint. FAITH IS POWERFUL and it often blinds people. I wonder how someone knowing what their Church has done in the past and present can still motivate them to follow teachings that were written hundreds of years after their GODS death. I respect you who have deep faith not in the Church but to your God.
