Sweet baby Nikki, foster dog #3, arrived from China this morning. She’s POOPED. As in, she’s tired AND SHE HAS POOPED — outside, even! #ForTheWin This 14 week old puppy is the cutest. I can hardly stand it. We met with the vet today who gave an initial diagnosis on her eyes — she’s partially blind and will see a specialist soon to nail down specifics. I Pooped Today shirt. For now, she’s excellent at fetching her puppy kong and chasing Zoey around the yard — she can clearly see some things — but she also bashes her face into the side of the water bowl and doesn’t notice treats unless we hold them up to her nose.

The WONDERFUL news is, the campaigns for fixing pets, adoption, etc. have been remarkably effective. YAY! The WEIRD news is, this has created a bigger market for breeders and pet stores — supply and demand means that when supply is low, demand increases, so when there aren’t, say, Golden Retrievers available at a shelter and when the wait-list for them with a rescue organization is months and months long, people understandably look to breeders and pet stores. Now, obviously there are many breeders and stores that are reputable, and there’s zero inherently wrong with purchasing an animal that way.
