“I’ve been drinking lots of coffee so I have enough energy to work out but that makes me jittery so my doctor put me on Buspar for anxiety but that made me sleepy so he gave me Adderall which killed my appetite so I smoke marijuana to make myself hungry but now I’m gaining weight so I have to work out more and now I never see my wife so I’m depressed so he put me on Effexor which is giving me brain zaps.” I’m Never Drinking Again Oh Look Coffee Dory shirt. This is America right now. “We gotta ban Muslims who are fleeing the wars we started and we gotta close the border and separate families to keep out the people who are fleeing the drug cartels that we created by the war on drugs which people use to fix the loneliness created by the collapse of our families caused by our way of life which we need to make people rich so we can afford to hire immigrants.” Everything we do is some dumbass attempt to fix a side effect caused by some other dumbass thing we’re doing. That’s it. That’s our country.
In these two paragraphs, you summed up your country in a comprehensive way. I can’t see any single shadow of doubt of what you said. Bravo bro! for standing against the unjust. I started down that same path with my doctor till I fired her. Then I became empowered. No more worries about nasty side effects, enjoying the side benefits! Sadly the political system works more or less like that in almost all the countries; enticing the masses in their day to day problems so much that they cannot see the real scenario and can work on their agendas. But, you shouldn’t disown your homeland for this. Try to fix it, be aware and spread the message. Do your part and hope for the best.
Oh Look, Coffee!
I couldn’t get a good photo, but I just needed to share this. I was sitting in the metro station drinking coffee (which I never do) because I was early to an interview at the Georgetown Law center. But I see the man in the blue jacket and his son in the blue backpack standing there and they looked worried/scared. He heard me speak Spanish on the phone and afterwards, he nervously asked me to make a call on my phone. He was trying to find whoever was picking him up. After the call, I start asking him where he’s from. He nervously answered, “de otro país”.
To make him feel more comfortable I told him how my father had come from El Salvador and my mother from Mexico.. He opened up and started telling me how he came from Guatemala. Him and his son have been traveling for over a month to get here. I’m Never Drinking Again Oh Look Coffee Dory shirt. They were beaten before they got to the border, had no money, had not eaten, and spent 15 days in the detention center in Texas with no food. He then says “ lo único que quiero es ir a agradecerle a Dios por permitirme llegar”. It was no coincidence that I was there at that exact moment.
