Navy noun definition An organized group of war fighting beer drinking country serving highly trained shirt. How many people remember the beer machines on base when you got out of boot camp. Remember in 1988, a drinking sailor was a happy sailor. Drinking two or three beers at lunch was allowed. What a great time to be in the Navy. Who remembers the good days, now the Navy is all uptight about drinking, what a 180 degree turn from back then. I remember being at RM “A” school in Bainbridge MD. I could go over to the gee dunk, play pinball and drink Schlitz cans out of the vending machine. I don’t remember what they cost.

In the early sixties alcohol was the universal social currency. In submarines, it was multiplied by a factor of ten. As long as you didn’t break any law, and could walk, or crawl, back to your command, it didn’t matter! I remember an event in Holy Loch called the Submarine Ball. Uncle Zuckie would have me drawn and quartered if I related everything… but… suffice it to say that almost none of what went on in those days would be tolerated today!! The FBM Navy was a brand new thing and latitude for it’s sailors was understood by all!
