Quando a vida fica complicada lembra-te Só se desce uma vez o resto é sempre a subir post. When we are little we all have dreams and goals. We are happy and carefree. We feel we can accomplish anything, climb every mountain. As we grow older we learn more, grow more, experience more. Life gets complicated for some. They are dealt a hand that becomes increasingly difficult to play. Some of those people, like Steph, end up in dark places and don’t make it to see what happens down the road. Maybe they were too afraid to say anything. Maybe they had to wait too long for the treatment they were desperately seeking. Maybe the help wasn’t consistent enough to make a difference.

Maybe there wasn’t enough people with the right tools or knowledge to bring them back from the brink. Maybe the right resources were in place in place but the team wasn’t working together the way it should. Maybe the help was too far away. We can make a difference. You and your team can make a difference! You can keep people in this game of life! Come and join us Saturday, March 23 for Basketball Tournament to raise funds and awareness for mental health initiatives in our community. When you feel something uncomfortable, like loneliness, or sadness, or despair, the urge is to cover it up, to buffer it, to numb it, or to soothe it. That urge comes from a conditioned sense that it’s bad or at least undesirable to feel emotions that our society has labelled as ‘negative’. For most people, sadness is not seen as a gift, at least not without effort. Sadness is not usually valued in our current culture. Self-help books promote the benefits of positive thinking, positive attitude, and positive behaviors, labeling sadness as a “problem emotion” that needs to be kept at bay or eliminated.
When life gets complicated
But it is. That sadness, or loneliness, is one way that your deepest awareness signals you that your experience of reality is not yet complete. You can feel sad or lonely or empty or experience profound existential angst even when everything’s ‘fine’, and it’s actually for a very good reason. When life gets complicated it reminds you Only if it descends once the rest is always to climb. There is always suffering in experiencing yourself as somehow separate from the whole, and that suffering is the engine that drives the spiritual life. For many people that suffering is muted, underlying things, pricking at the corners of awareness, rather than front and center.
So spiritually speaking, it’s absolutely necessary to let yourself feel the acute pain of separation so that you can directly know how much your soul wants union. And only when you’ve realized that union will you know how deeply that suffering actually infected everything. Note: the word ‘union’ is of course metaphorical, because in truth you already are one with everything—but you have not truly recognized that seamless unity, because you haven’t recognized yourself as you really are.* All longing is really longing to experience the truth, and by the same token, existential loneliness and emptiness is a feedback mechanism by which you see the real pain of your self-imposed state of separation from the whole.
