Yesterday, Gina’s body was laid to rest after a beautiful mass. I’m not really able to find the right words, so I pulled up a few pictures. Losing Gina has been like losing a part of my self that will never be found again. She was more than a friend. And while she has a sister and sister in law, she was my family and the closest I had to a sister. She touched so many people. I met several that came out to celebrate her life that had never met her in person. But, we all knew her heart and spirit.

When I found out I was having my daughter, I had to have a heart to heart with G. I told her I was going to use a name she also loved and may have wanted to use herself. She gave me permission and I told her the other reason was because Genevieve isn’t the same as Gina, I was still going to name my baby after her. Love Sunflower in a world full of grandmas be a gigi shirt. That’s a big reason why she’s Gigi and not a Gen, Jen, Gena, Eva or anything anyone else suggested. I also found some pictures I didn’t remember taking of her Grandma Connie a few weeks ago.

Maybe it was a sign that they would be together again. Hopefully, laughing and loving heaven, maybe giggling over a slice of melon. Anyway, I could go on forever, but as others said it was an amazing send off to the most wonderful friend/sister/mother/daughter/wife. In a world full of grandmas be a gigi. It’s not easy waking up each day without knowing she’s on the other side of town or the other side of this screen I’m typing on. But, I know she was greeted in heaven and some day the rest of us will join the party. Until then (hasta la pasta!) we’ll be a little bit lost without you.
