MY BRIEF CHAT WITH “DOUBLE H” The first question I got from UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema (HH) when I was travelling to Jo’burg last month was, “Why are Zambian Youths not voting? what is wrong with your generation”. My answer was simple; Young People are not attracted by the current political atmosphere that is characterized by Hate Speech, Self-Centeredness and lack of Objectivity. The older generation must lead by example and show integrity and comradeship. It will be easier to baptize a cat than make all the youths in Zambia to vote on election day. My advice to him was to encourage more young people to Stand as Members of Parliament, unlike the current situation where the highest bidder gets nominated as a candidate.

When u have political dinarsours still putting us in problems, someone who had put Zambia in trouble in 1974, comes again and put us in trouble again, its so painful. If you still think “the youth are leaders for tomorrow”, you shall be disappointed. Today you may be a youth. Tomorrow you shall not be. Act now and stop basking in non existing glory which shall fade. Isn’t it the youth that throw stones, hail insults and are found drunk around? Should adults be blamed? Maybe. So since you know what is in your interest, organise for what you need. Leadership is today and not tomorrow.

Very intelligent answer you gave young man. It’s quite hard to draw any inspiration from the current political situation even for older Zambians who feel betrayed because what all well meaning Zambians look for are sound ideas from these folks, other than what’s obtaining now. It’s really sad that our youths are reduced to entertaining voters through music and used for violence what a shame even I would feel discouraged it’s high time young people are given the opportunity to blend with the old at decision making level
