That’s The Lord Of The Rings The Second Breakfast Club shirt. Ian Nathan’s new book Anything You Can Imagine: Peter Jackson and the Making of Middle-Earth contains facts even the biggest Lord of the Rings fan might not have heard before. In my opinion, he ruined the story. What he did to butcher the whole storyline is too long to mention, but the top offenders are the inclusion of Arwen. “If you want him, come and claim him.” Hell, even Glorfindel, a high Noldorin elf, who lived in the light of the two trees, did not challenge them. “Noro lim, Asfaloth. No matter what anyone thinks about the movies, there’s one thing you can’t deny. Peter Jackson was/is a fan of the story. So was pretty much every major person that worked on the movies. This shows in the special features discs. While the original story is probably the greatest book any of us will ever read, it’s not a perfect story. I know that when I read it, there are certain passages I groan a little at when I come to them. And yet I still read it. As far as books go, LotR, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion are my most treasured. I realized long ago while reading them that to try and film them exactly as written in the books would be an almost impossible task. Tolkien may or may not have ever thought of his story being filmed; I don’t really know either way.
