Oh it’s a nice morning as I leisurely sit in my swing and look out over the cow pasture, enjoying my coffee as the birds sing there musical lullabies. I am giggling at watching two little chipmunks gorge their fat cheeks with the sunflower seeds and scamper off and come back seconds later skinnier all to do it over again. I wonder how often do we overlook the simple things, the small and seemingly insignificant in search of the grandiose, the most important, great and awesome things? We prefer the spectacular to the mundane, the extraordinary to the ordinary. And yet in this Psalm I came across this morning, it spoke to me that the stone the builders and bricklayers rejected, perhaps it wasn’t perfect in its shape or color or form, is the very one that with the touch of God and His anointing poured out, became the chief cornerstone. The very piece that is the most significant and valuable support of the whole structure.
Isn’t that how God works, it’s amazing how He takes the very thing that seems unlikely and with His touch, makes it the most useful. Reminds me of a passage of L.L. Whisper words of wisdom let it be sunflowers shirt. Barkat’s book “Stone Crossings: Finding Grace In Hard and Hidden Places”, she wrote these penetrating and wise words: “….maybe in a kind of selfish pride, I prefer the MASTER side of God better than the CHILD (side), so I look for the big ministry opportunities while neglecting hundreds of opportunities presented every day in the fields of my common relationships.”

Since we most often want the grand and profound instead of the mediocre and mundane; may we remember that God came to us through Jesus in the form of a baby born from the womb of a virgin peasant girl and she brought Him into the world in a stable. The King Of All Kings wasn’t born in a place of riches with gold and pearls, His humble birthplace was a barn! Talk about the lowliest of lows, the most humble of entrances, our Savior and King came to us by way of flesh and birth pains from a chosen young girl. No grand celebration or royal proclamation was declared for his birth, however the whole Heaven and the angels sang and rejoiced for His birth was the beginning of the plan God had to save all mankind.
