Between 2005 and 2017 working age women who are employed in India has fallen sharply from 43% to 27%. And now India has been ranked the most dangerous country for women as perceived by more than 500 of world’s leading gender rights experts. And why not. It’s not only about rapes. It’s about access to education. Access to property rights. Access to health care and maternal mortality rates. It’s about the horribly exploitative culture and patriarchal society. It’s about the khap mentality all across the county. And it’s about killing the girl child even before she is born. And very importantly it’s about women working in a society.

Because a woman working means a huge boost in her role in decision making, controlling assets, a focus in the family on equal rights and education for the girl child and needless to say an instant rise in the no of women saying no to domestic violence and asserting equality. Wonder Woman sorry I’m late I had to walk my Unicorn. Compare India’s 27% rate to Philippines (to whom India is even losing out the outsourcing work that had become it’s core competence) where I was very recently for a talk on the “Global Wage Equality Crusade” and an award ceremony.
The percentage of working age women employed is 93.5%. No wonder such a high proportion of the corporate leaders who came to collect the awards were women. They were all so well spoken and confident. Sharing a collage of my lecture and the lovely ladies ruling the corporate world of Philippines. My respect. That was an enlightening message indeed. Thanks for such an educative and logical comment. You have opened my eyes. And everybody’s eyes. How can I thank you enough.
Wonder Woman and Unicorn
It’s a good start, but I wonder if it will still be a part of #2. Blatant sexual harassment and sexism in #1 with next to nothing but a shrug from “Wonder Woman.” Won’t make any moves in non-fiction if we don’t stop normalizing it in fiction. I support this; however, how is it different than actually enforcing anti- discrimination; anti- sexual harassment law already on the books? Is there an anonymous Whistleblower Hotline or Commission to investigate these claims for film and music video production? How will this be different?
Both very, very excellent movies. Loved Black Panther. Loved Wonder Woman, which is the best DC movie to date. Both had very great cast performances, great story telling and CGI, action. Sorry I’m late I had to walk my unicorn. But, stop comparing the two. Two different (bomb ass) companies. Two different diverse audiences, which deserve to be embraced. The only patron who would be bothered with these two movies (winning!!) would be the person who identifies more with Superman, Cap and Bucky; or on a reality level …. Tucker Carlson. Just saying. But, as Marvel and DC just proved, the world is bigger than Superman, Cap, Bucky, and Tucker . Live with it, or find a cave to inhabit.
